Due to the current situation around the new COVID-19 virus (the so-called “coronavirus”) and frequent questions regarding coverage or refusal to cover the risks of conditions associated with this disease, we provide explanatory information that is relevant at the time of publication (August 04, 2020).
The subject of coverage (in simple words)
Just like with any other viral disease, the COVID-19 virus (as well as a variety of this virus) affects the body, leading to some consequences. If these consequences are such that the insured person needs medical assistance to save his life, it is provided. Expenses for in-hospital and out-of-hospital treatment, as well as medical supplies, are covered. Within the limits of a specific insurance contract. At the same time, expenses for medical services without medical necessity are not covered (that is if the conditions are not life-threatening), including disease prevention.
