Our clients often have questions when purchasing health insurance policies to provide consular services to the Republic of Bulgaria. In this post, we shall tell in detail how to do everything correctly so as not to lose time and money.
How to choose the validity start date of insurance when submitting for D visa?
To begin with, the D visa is issued for various reasons. You shall know the average time for consideration of documents for D visa on your grounds in order to understand what validity start date of insurance to choose. Provided that you go to Bulgaria as soon as you receive visa. If you want to open a visa later than after the average term of issue, then you need to know that you can declare the date of opening D visa within 90 days from the date of visa application and therefore the policy shall be done from the opening date of the visa.
If the grounds are a ‘secured pensioner’ then you shall add 45 calendar days to the date of visa application and take insurance from this date, since usually a visa for this basis is not considered more than 45 days.
Example: Your documents are ready. You signed up at the consulate/embassy for submission of documents on January 01, 2019. So you can take a policy with the validity start date from February 15, 2019.
If the grounds are a ‘reunification with family’ and you already have a certificate of reunification, then you shall add 7 calendar days to the date of visa application and take insurance from this date, since usually a visa for this basis is not considered more than 7 days.
Example: Your documents are ready. You signed up at the consulate/embassy for submission of documents on January 01, 2019. So you can take a policy with the validity start date from January 08, 2019.
If the grounds are a ‘Sales representative’ then you shall add 45 calendar days to the date of visa application and take insurance from this date, since usually a visa for this basis is not considered more than 45 days.
Example: Your documents are ready. You signed up at the consulate/embassy for submission of documents on January 01, 2019. So you can take a policy with the validity start date from February 15, 2019.
For which term do you need to purchase health insurance to provide documents to the consular services for D visa?
D visa is usually issued for six months. But there are categories of grounds under which the D visa shall be issued for a period of up to one year.
For a semi-annual visa, semi-annual insurance is enough for you, but you should take into account that the shorter the term of the policy, the more expensive the cost of each day in this insurance. It is more profitable to purchase annual policies, but the decision is up to you!
