UNIQA Life’s voluntary medical insurance “Za Nasheto Zdrave” gives you access to quality, timely medical care in Bulgaria. It is a highly flexible insurance product because you choose the cover you need. The policy offers different healthcare service packages and three coverage levels.
Where is this insurance valid?
“Za Nasheto Zdrave” is valid in Bulgaria only. If you need insurance covering treatment in other countries, go here.
Who can take out this insurance?
Foreign nationals with or without a Bulgarian personal number (EGN), as well as Bulgarian citizens. The insurance can be individual, family or group cover.
There is a difference in the medical services and products available to people who use Bulgaria’s public healthcare system (and pay compulsory health-insurance contributions) and those who are not entitled to public healthcare.
Are there age limits?
Yes. Individual and family insurance is available from birth until the age of 70. Group insurance is available until the age of 80.
Is there a waiting period?
Yes. The general waiting period under this insurance is 60 (sixty) days. It begins on the policy start date or, for a newly added insured person, on the date their insurance begins, provided that the first premium due under the insurance contract has been paid before that date. If the premium has not been paid before the policy starts, the waiting period begins at 24:00 on the date the first premium is paid. Please note that cover for pregnancy monitoring or childbirth has a waiting period longer than 60 days, so read the insurance terms carefully.
There is one exception: the general waiting period does not apply to treatment needed because of an accident (subject to the provisions of the general terms).
When an employer insures a large group of employees, insurers very often waive the waiting period as a benefit. This must be agreed in advance, as group-size requirements may differ. You can find the insurance terms on this page.
What is a healthcare service package?
It is a defined set of medical services and products by type and scope, which the insurer undertakes to provide to the insured person in order to restore, maintain and improve their health under the insurance contract and its appendices.
What do the Standard, Comfort and Prestige coverage levels mean?
This insurance offers three coverage levels: Standard, Comfort and Prestige. Each level is an option for covered risks and insurance benefits, specified in the policy when the insurance contract is concluded.
For example, the “Inpatient Treatment (Hospital Treatment)” package covers medical services and products during inpatient treatment up to the limit under one of the three coverage levels: Standard – EUR 5,000; Comfort – EUR 7,500; Prestige – EUR 12,500.
