If you are going to study in Bulgaria and are a citizen of another country, you will stay in the Republic of Bulgaria for the duration of your studies. For this reason, you need compulsory medical insurance — it is required for all foreigners who stay in Bulgaria on a short-term or long-term basis.
Therefore, when applying for a student visa, you need to present a compulsory medical insurance policy.
This insurance is mandatory because a Bulgarian government ordinance sets out the insurance-cover requirements for foreigners in Bulgaria.
The compulsory medical insurance policies we offer meet the requirements of the Bulgarian government. They are issued by Bulgarian insurance companies in Bulgarian and English and include:
- an emergency medical-care limit of EUR 30,000, covering treatment, medical transportation and repatriation1 following an accident or acute illness;
- emergency dental-treatment expenses of EUR 250;
- territorial cover in Bulgaria and the Schengen Area2.
An insurance contract (policy) can be issued for a maximum of one year. When it expires, a new policy is issued for the next period — for example, for another year.
